Clash of the titans..

Clash of the titans..

Once upon a time I hade some kind of a boy friend in the UK. One year in December, when we were in our early twenties, he took the boat from Harwich [I presume] to travel up north to the cold and dark Scandinavia.

After travelling 23h on a boat. An additional 8h on a bus through the snowy winter wonderland of my home country he arrived at his destination armed with the ONE question to me and my parents:

Why does everybody have the exact same lamp in their window?

It’s a Christmas light. It’s a tradition, it lights up the darkness!

It’s a Christmas light

In present times my husband doesn’t understand why anybody would EVER place a lamp by a window. Like a lamp standing on a window board.

For me the mystery doesn’t evolve why one choose to place a lamp in the window, but why on earth one doesn’t!

Not only does it raise the curb appeal of ones house. It also makes it nice and cosy on the inside. Even better, it is also a very efficient way to help keeping privacy on the inside when the house is lit up at night.

We also live in the land of roller shutters. In all a very efficient and great invention, but when closed they are also one of the most efficient ways to remove any kind of curb appeal there is. They are so boring!

To me having this conversation [argument] about lamps in the windows, over and over again is starting to be somewhat of a drag.

Every time we end up having this conversation it reminds me of the week my friend traveled all the way to a dark and cold Scandinavia to learn about our Christmas light tradition.
