It works..

It works..

So, we bought a smaller fishpond kind of thing. I always wanted a water feature and watching the birds play around in our bird bath during last summer made me want one even more. So some weeks back in time we came home with a water feature to be.

At this time we had awesome weather and it really felt like spring so the small pond was stocked up with living creatures. Not only plants but also some mossels, fish and water snails. Anything for a good environment.

Then things turned cold and the weather forecast was not so brill. This is where I started to freak out. We have no over flow for the pond. Initially we were thinking of drilling a hole into it and let gravity do the rest.

But of course I read more than one blog and or article about people cracking their ponds when drilling into them. So that turned into a no go.

Just YouTube it..

Then I found an online tutorial on YouTube and was like. Let’s do this. Watching a bit closer at the video it looked too complicated to put together so once again I moved on and dropped that idea.

Searching a bit further through the endless source of weird tutorials one can find on YouTube I came across another, way more simple to build, construction. Even better, it seemed it was actually working.

So I bought the bits and bobs needed to build one and got going. I sawed, I drilled and I glued. I also roamed the local garden centres to find a tiny piece of hose pipe for my construction.

For sure I could have asked the man of the mansion for help building it, but I didn’t.

Anyway, I got it all together, put it into the pond and then the promised torrential rain never came. Until today all we’ve got was a drizzle.

Enough to make gardening wet and cold. But way too little to make the pond flood.

However, good things comes to those who wait. And what do you know. Suddenly it did started to poor down. I grabbed my phone to check and my home built overflow is actually working.

The water actually does come out of the pond in both a fish and slug safe kind of way.

LOVE IT!
