Let it grow...

I would not brag too much about the quality of our lawn. But, considering the weather lately it is indeed alive and thriving.

Let it grow...
Pathway in our lawn

The only reason for that is water.

We actually use a lot of water in our garden.

And I can just imagine how some readers out there just spit out there coffee over this information, and are now gasping for air.

But you really shouldn't.

My garden and water usage is not the problem.

We pump up our own water, we have our own electricity, and any excess water goes straight back into the ground where it belongs.

Food, shelter and water

The water that doesn't, feeds our trees, flowers and bushes.

Trees, flowers and bushes that keep animals alive by providing, food, shelter and water!

Even better, the more we plant, the more shade we get. The more shade we get the cooler it gets in and around both our house and garden.

Which in reality means we're moving towards to actually be using less water to keep our garden alive and thriving!

People are talking about climate change, and I am the first to admit that I am old enough to remember those hot summers as a child when the weather maps were not screaming in tones of yellow, orange and red when it was hotter than usual like they do now.

Even so I do believe the planet is getting warmer.

And I bet most people who ever sat in any kind of traffic jam by the Kennedy-tunnel in Antwerpen, Belgium, or on autobahn in Germany, for sure must have second thoughts if the cows really are o blame for our climate.

Us humans keep an insane amount of trucks, ships and cars.

We pave our gardens, use plastic grass, and continue to cut down trees to make bigger roads or whatever is more convenient for us, never mind the wildlife, while blaming the farmers for the climate change.

It is so messed up!

What we should focus on is to start planting thousands and thousands of trees. Make sure to plant Hawthorn hedges in between fields, and such. Even more importantly, we need to stop consuming like crazy full stop.

That's where our garden come in.

We've created more than a micro climate. Depending on where the sun hits, we have different zones. Different zones with different plants.

Different zones with different plants also attract different wildlife.

In the photo, you see the rests of what used to be a tiny paved path leading to our back garden. We decided to give it back to nature, which in technical terms mean our tiny piece of lawn is taking it over.
