Only idiots don't have cats..
There you go, the first little ball from our Christmas tree falling down, landing on the cold stone floor and shatter into pieces. Great traditions never die :)

One day, two years ago when working a total dream job as a temp stylist for one of the biggest Christmas shows in the region. Our head stylist stood up and made a long speech on the topic: only idiots use plastic balls in their Christmas tree.
In my head I had an obvious response to this which was: only idiots don’t have cats.
Any other cat owner out there knows exactly what I’m talking about. All others can just Google cat + christmas tree..
Anyhow, last night I started to hang the ornaments in or 2024 tree and could not get that snobbish speech out of my head.
That’s when I literally dropped a ball, a plastic one. On my quest to save it from the cold stone floor another one jumped off the tree and ended up in one big chunk and many the smaller bits on the floor.
I could almost hear our cat [the widow of a true and genuine xmas tree terrorist] laughing at me from her Christmas styled bed on the sofa.
Personally I took it as a sign it was time to quit hanging ornaments. At least for this evening. I will just go on tomorrow.
I actually have hundreds of balls in various sizes.
Sparkly, mat, shiny, glass and God forbid plastic.
Cause never ever would I discard a pretty ornament just because it is plastic. Ivory yes, plastic not so much. Why would I?
My plastic golden ones survived 16 years with the late xmas tree terrorist. This year they must be closing in on their 25th birthday which would now make them vintage
So in all I admit to use the same ornaments year after year.
But I tend to add on a couple of new ones for every season.
This year I have added on some tiny little green sparkly acorns. They are made of glass, and my first ever deviation from the classic red and gold I always use.

Later on I will add on my late grandmothers ornaments. We found a box of them when clearing out the family summer house in late summer.
They will be my second deviation in regards to colour.
How very exciting!
ps, I know it is early for the Christmas tree but I always put it up in the last week of November. This year we have guests on that date so I wanted it done before they arrive.
