Erase and rewind...
Twenty years ago I started an internet forum on a niche topic. I wanted a nice place to hang out. A place where people were friendly, cause at the time the online climate was quite nasty. A few years later internet actually turned quite nice for couple of
Never ever did I think I would ever come to a point where I would write anything close to political in my blog. But enough is enough.
This year I found what felt like a social media "safe haven" in Bluesky. For me it was refreshing, I even managed to beat out a lot of posts, interact with people and feel like "this is a nice place".
Then Charlie Kirk was murdered and let's face it, hell broke loose. Suddenly my nice Bluesky feed was filled with hate!
The amount of people living with the idea that he deserved getting murdered was freakin' frightening.
Technically this kind of thinking falls in to the very same kind of thinking where girls are considered to get what they deserved when assaulted, when being drunk and or dressed in a certain kind of way.
How scary is that?
But the freakiest thing of all, may be the people who see no problem in celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk at the same time as they now scream bloody murder about freedom of speech on behalf of Jimmy Kimmel who got cancelled.
Can you spell double standards?
Isn't freedom of speech the very same thing that got Kirk killed in he first place?
And let's be clear here.
I don't care who you vote for, left or right or something in between. If you respect me I shall respect you right back.
On the other hand, if you actively choose to not vote at all, no matter what country you live in, you actually revoked your right to complain.
In fact, you have no rights what so ever to even comment on the current political climate. Cause, like it or not, you are not a part of the solution, but actually a huge part of the problem.
Moving on
I also don't care about your sexual preferences. If you're gay, straight or swinging both ways. Fine by me. If you respect me I shall respect you right back.
Last but not least...
I don't care if you worship Jesus, Allah, the Pope, or a freakin' Goblin of Doom. If you respect me I shall respect you right back.
It's that simple!
You reap what you sow.
You get what you give.
Treat others how you want to be treated.
Again, that simple!
But for me, who had so much fun scrolling on Bluesky it really made me wonder if I even wanted to stick around.
I thought about it long and hard, and today I came up with a solution to get all this hate out of my life and the only social media feed I actually enjoyed for a really long time.
The solution is to block out words!
So I did.
I started to block out the following:
Congress, Palestine, Senate, Charlie Kirk, Kirk, Trump, President, Gaza, Jimmy Kimmel, Kimmel, Greta Thunberg [why not] and Thunberg
And voila, my Bluesky feed was almost back to normal with stunning photos, normal people, no hate, no violence, just how it should be. So just maybe I will stick around on Bluesky for a little bit longer.
Bye bye true crime podcast
For all the reasons above I also decided to stop follow and endorse my favourite true crime podcast.
Sad but true!
But I am sure I will find a new one that doesn't push the "as a matter of fact it is indeed ok to kill people, at least if they are not like minded to me and my beliefs".
Something that also surfaced after the Kirk assasination. All this while the hosts make a shitload of money while pretending they do care in making the world a better place. Shame on you!
For now, I will leave the political arena and head back out in my beautiful garden and enjoy and maintain what planet earth has given us!
But remember this, the very foundation of a democracy is the idea that power comes from the people, and is sustained by freedom of speech, freedom of opinion, and freedom of the press which makes it possible for regular citizens to hold their leaders accountable.
These are the things worth fighting for, and we will never ever regain life as we knew it, unless we stand united and fight side by side. In opposite of the current state where political and religious views have divided us more than ever before!
