It’s been a long year with a lot of crap going on in the sidelines stealing my focus from the things I hold dearest. For one I cannot remember when I last went to see the puppies! The puppies are not dogs but my three home bread youngsters gracing the fields on the boarder to France. They live a good live there, but it would be fun to see how much they’ve grown, or not.
But slow and steady I am finding my way back to things that amuse and excite me. Around two months ago I bought a new camera. Not the most expensive or high end that one may expect from a former professional photographer. But a party camera.
A Canon R50V, which is a small video focused compact camera with exchangeable lenses. And I love it.
Funny thing though, the years I’ve been away from photography changed very little. At least not when it comes down to reviews and photo tips on various photo sites and YouTube channels.
As a quick summarise of such outlets it is always about the most expensive gear, it is always refers to the “fact” only idiots use Auto ISO, and the ever so popular myth that if one doesn’t shoot in Manual one is basically a looser.
What a load of BS!!!
As a former outdoor action sport photographer I swear to Auto ISO, mostly because of something that is normally referred to as mother nature. As in trees, clouds and ever changing light conditions, wind, sun, torrential rain and more.
Without the Auto ISO one wouldn’t stand a chance in capturing an athlete when all one have is a couple of second to make some great shots of them in action.
If I would to start teaching photographers my first lesson would be - stop reading too many tutorials and trust your instincts. My second lesson, practice makes perfect.
That is what I am doing now, practising, hauling my little camera and his original lenses plus the whole army of EF-lenses around in our garden. Snapping my sorrows away, getting creative and finding the way back to true inner self. Without the drama but more creative, inspired and focused than ever before.
