When you bring home an orchid, it often arrives in a tiny, tight plastic pot. It looks neat, even convenient, but for the orchid, it’s not the best start.
Those small containers are meant for transport and display, not for long-term living.
Orchid roots are different from the roots of many other houseplants. They are designed to cling to bark and branches in nature, where air and light reach them easily.

When roots stay cramped in a little pot, pressed against wet moss or packed too tightly, they can suffocate or rot.
Releasing the roots, by gently lifting the plant from its store pot, gives the plant room to breathe.

You can place it in a slightly larger container with airy orchid bark, or let it grow in a clear water container where the roots can stretch freely and still get light. Both ways mimic the orchid’s natural need for space, air, and gentle moisture.
By freeing your orchid from its undersized pot, you’re giving it the comfort it needs to thrive, and you’ll be rewarded with a stronger, happier plant that will bloom again and again.
