Patience is a virtue I don't possess...
Family secrets don’t announce themselves. They hide in summer houses, in old passenger lists, in DNA results that take forever to arrive. Mine even hides behind a possible link to Kate Winslet. And this is where my search begins.

Last year after going through our family summer house after my mother's passing I started to wonder a bit more about our family and where we come from. Especially my mom's dad, and my own dad.
Except for being stuck on my own dad and his profession [suspected intelligence officer] I must say I have come quite far. For one I found my great grand father's real father. I also know this part of the family has a lot in common with the ever so stunning and talented Kate Winslet!
Unlike her great grandfather who emigrated to the UK, my own great grand father stayed put in the southern parts of Sweden.
I docked at Ellis Island in a city of light and spires
She met me in the valley of red-hot steel and fire
We made the steel that built the cities with our sweat and two hands
And we made our home in the American Land
His aunt on the other hand went to America, and is confirmed to have arrived at Ellis Island and getting married in New York. Then the trail goes dead.
Needless to say I need to know more about this!
Somewhere along this journey my husband wanted to be part of it. Turns out he and his uncle, who is also into this kind of stuff, really don't know much about their mother line.
So the hubby poked around his gums, we posted the test and now it is a waiting game closing in on nine weeks! And let's be honest, patience is a virtue I don't possess, and this kind of wait is like killing me.
But meanwhile waiting, I also poke around in my oldest child hood friend's family to see where she and I are connected. Cause according to MyHeritage her aunt and I are confirmed DNA matches and something like 5th cousins.
