Rerouting a tree..

Rerouting a tree..

Today I was really brave.

Brave as in daring to do something a little bit more than just to sit still. The past weekend's reminder of not overdoing things after serious surgery has been hanging heavy over me the past days. But today I tried to do some things.

So I started to reroute a tree. Yupp, rerouting a tree. Like an espalier kind of way but only in one direction.

I never really did anything like that before but I was thinking. If I could get my over grown and poor Rhododendron to start growing upwards instead of sideways after being stuck in a trelli by the entrance to our back garden.

Then, just maybe, I can get a Common Laurel to grow a bit more sideways than upwards to try and cover up a piece of our back garden.

Block out the neighbours..

Cause there is a spot where our next door neighbour have a serious open view into our back garden and patio area.

Standing in the correct angle I seriously suspect they can actually see straight into our current bedroom area. Our dining room to be. Let's not have that.

So I started to first of all try and catch the branches and then tie them down to a pole I have assembled in that Christmas tree foot I found in the back garden last week.

So far so good, it actually seems like it may be working. If I can get those branches to reshape themselves I also suspect they will take off later on in the spring and start growing upwards and actually cover up that hollow.

In all this is not only a matter of privacy it is also a matter of silencing our neighbours out and vice versa.

Cause with just a brick wall in between and no foliage there really isn't anything that muffles the sound from loud neighbours.

So even though temporarily for this season only it will hopefully end up being a win win on both side of the wall.

During fall we plan to cut down the tall multi Laurel tree and replace it with three new ones of the very same sort. But those will be espaliered and ready to cover up just about anything.

I see a pallet and I want to paint it black..

I have also found a 260cm tall pallet in our side garden. It was actually lying there in plain site when I came home from my meetings yesterday.

Seems we had a truckload of building material delivered and this was part of that delivery.

But instead of getting rid of this gigantic pallet. I'm thinking of painting it black, make it to stand up straight and plant a fast growing climber in front of it.
