Saving memories..
Some of the envelopes do speak more to me than others. I cannot explain it but so far I found drawings, letters, and photos from and of my dad when he was about 4-6 years old.
Saving memories is as you know the headline of this blog, it has its reasons. One of those reasons is I spent some weeks in late summer clearing out our family summer house.
It was basically filled up to the max with junk, crap, antiques and photo albums in just about any and every space possible.
A lot of the things we came home with were smaller boxes with old letters. Letters in between my parents, letter in between two of my grand parents.
The latter is like winning the lottery. There are a lot of them, and they seem to span across the first ten years of their life long love story. Yesterday, triggered by some other events related to this story I started to catalogue these letters.
I did not open all of them but I have managed to create a time line in where the two of them were living over these first ten years. Which includes WWII.
And here’s the interesting part. This is when I found out my grandpa, just like my dad, was also military. I never knew.
Another thing I find weird is how my grand parents, just like my dad moved around a lot. That is why I am cataloging these letters, before starting the daunting task in scanning them.
By cataloging I can follow their whereabouts and most of the time in between 1932 to 1942 there were not living together.
The first years because they were not married yet.
The last years because of the war, and my grand dad was stationed in one place, and my grand ma and dad lived at other more safe locations.
Some of the envelopes do speak more to me than others. I cannot explain it but so far I found drawings, letters, and photos from and of my dad when he was about 4-6 years old.
I cannot believe my luck my sister, and only living relative, just walked out of the family summer house to never look back. Leaving all of these treasures in my possession.
